Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful. I am thankful today that I can eat food. Today I am thankful that I can eat a 12 Lb. turkey and stuffing. Or yams and green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and bread. Bread is inexpensive.

I am thankful for 2 buck chuck and ice in my water. I am thankful for clean and potable water. I am thankful for pumpkin pie, apple pie, chocolate pie, and vanilla ice cream. I am thankful for Pillsbury pie crusts and canned spiced pumpkin. I am also thankful for the option of choosing whether to use pumpkin off the vine or pumpkin in a can when making a pumpkin pie. Pumpkin is inexpensive and so is the cost of digging a well.

I am thankful for coffee. Oh my gosh am I thankful for coffee. I am thankful for $25 automatic drip coffee makers that tell you how long your brew has been sitting in the pot. I am thankful for Fair Trade, Shade-grown, organic coffee that the middle class and hipsters buy at places like Starbucks and the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I am thankful for the electricity to power my auto-drip Coffee Mate. I am thankful for electricity.

I am thankful for Netflix and Texas vs. Texas A&M and the capital it took to finance the blockbuster film Casino Royale so that I could marvel at its glossy action-packed entertainment. I am thankful for our nation's security... or perceived security that resides only in my mind. I am thankful that I do not live in Mumbai, India. A moment of silence...

I am thankful for my family and my friends. I am thankful for my health and the house I live in. I am thankful for the peace of mind that has existed in my world since the day I was born.

But mostly... I am thankful I can eat food.

Happy Thanksgiving. Tomorrow everyone will buy lots of material things for themselves and each other. Thank you.

I just saw this blog for the first time after getting your email, and imagine my surprise when I saw that my recently updated blog looks JUST like yours! I unknowingly picked the same template that you have on here... whoops, don't hate me too much! I like the little tokens of Guyanese culture - more, more! I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will find an incredible job in the near future to allow for savings and time off to come visit you sometime while you're abroad. Great blog, Chris!
